JROTC Cadets Hike 14 Miles to Honor 75th Bataan Death March

On Friday, April 14th Colonel Benning and SMSgt Eihusen took 34 JROTC cadets to Charlestown State Park for a 5 hour, 14.5 mile hike in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the Bataan Death March.  If you are not familiar with the Bataan Death March, it occurred on the Philippine Islands after American forces surrendered to the Imperial Japanese Army in April 1942.  American and Filipino POWs were forced marched 60 miles by the Japanese where 650 American soldiers and up to 10,000 Filipinos died during the 60 mile march. As a result of completing their 14.5 mile hike on Friday, all 34 cadets will be awarded the JROTC “Bataan Death March” ribbon.
